Two Cousins, One Dream — Bringing a Little Taste of Mexico to San Saba
This week’s San Saba County Chamber of Commerce Business Spotlight is shining on La Tiendita “Las Comadres,” a locally owned shop that truly has a little bit of everything!
Owned by cousins Alisha Ferrer and Sara Ontiveros, La Tiendita “Las Comadres” brings together Mexican imports, delicious snacks and drinks, everyday essentials, and a variety of convenient services—all under one roof.
Two Cousins, One Dream
The story behind La Tiendita “Las Comadres” began almost as an inside joke between two cousins.
Sara had already started selling blankets and pottery from her home while Alisha was working a full-time job. Then, in October, Sara suggested something bigger: “Let’s open a store.”
Things moved quickly! By November, they had found a location, and by the end of January, La Tiendita “Las Comadres” was open for business.
As Alisha describes it, their story is simple: “Two cousins, one dream.”
And that dream has continued to grow. The cousins recently expanded La Tiendita “Las Comadres” by opening a second location in Brady!
A Little Bit of Everything
Step inside La Tiendita “Las Comadres,” and you’ll quickly see why the name tiendita—or “little store”—fits so well.
Shoppers can browse a colorful assortment of Mexican imports, gifts, purses, pottery, candles, piñatas, sweets, and everyday essentials. Alisha and Sara travel to find unique products that aren’t readily available in San Saba, giving customers a shopping experience that feels a little like visiting the small shops and markets of Mexico without leaving town.
For members of San Saba’s Hispanic community, the store also offers something especially meaningful—a familiar taste and feeling of home.
Craving an antojito? There’s no need to travel far!
Come Hungry!
La Tiendita “Las Comadres” also has a snack bar filled with tasty treats, including aguas frescas, lemonades, fresh fruit cups, corn in a cup, pan dulce, tortillas, snacks, drinks, and more.
And there’s one item customers apparently shouldn’t miss: their michelada mix!
Word around town is that it might just be the best in San Saba. You’ll have to stop by and decide for yourself!
More Than a Store
One of the things Alisha and Sara are most proud of is the wide variety of services they are able to offer their customers.
La Tiendita “Las Comadres” is a Western Union agent and offers services including bill pay, money orders, money transfers, faxing, copies, printing, and notary services.
Whether you need to take care of an errand, find a unique gift, grab an everyday essential, or satisfy a craving, chances are there’s something waiting for you at La Tiendita.
It’s All About the Customers
When asked what they love most about doing business in San Saba County, Alisha’s answer was simple:
“The customers.”
That appreciation shows in the atmosphere they work to create. When you walk through the door, you can always expect a greeting and a warm welcome.
And here’s a fun fact for anyone who hasn’t met the duo yet: Alisha and Sara are cousins—not sisters! Apparently, that’s a surprise to quite a few customers.
Their story is one of family, entrepreneurship, culture, and taking an idea that began between two cousins and turning it into a growing business serving multiple communities.
Stop In & See What You Find!
With so many products, snacks, treats, and services available, Alisha’s advice for anyone who hasn’t visited yet is simple:
Come in and try something!
